Naseem Shah To Miss Remainder Asia Cup 2023; Zaman Khan Named Replacement

Due to the serious injury he sustained during the Super Four match against India in Colombo, Naseem Shah will not be able to play in the remaining matches of the Asia Cup 2023. Zaman Khan, the 22-year-old fast bowler, will replace him for the remainder of the competition.

Naseem suffered a shoulder injury while playing against India in the Super Four tie at R. Premadasa Stadium. The team's medical staff is still keeping an eye on him and taking all necessary precautions with the ICC World Cup in mind.

Meanwhile, Haris Rauf, who along with Naseem did not bat against India, is making good progress in his recovery after experiencing discomfort in his right flank on Day 1 of the two-day contest. Hence, the right-arm quick is still a part of the squad.

These two fast bowlers are our assets and the team’s medical panel will provide them the best possible care ahead of the all-important World Cup,” Pakistan Team doctor Sohail Saleem said in a statement.

Pakistan will next play Sri Lanka in an all-important Super Four match on Thursday (September 14) at R. Premadasa Stadium. The Men in Green, led by Babar Azam, must win this fixture in order to advance to the final, where India have already reached handsomely with comfortable victories against them, and the Lankan lions.
