My family and I have been subjected to threats, attacks and intimidation: Azeem Rafiq

Azeem Rafiq mustered the courage to speak up for his rights after being subject to racism and bullying during his stint at Yorkshire. Now, two years after his shocking revelations, the 31-year-old is still facing the repercussions for the same.

The English cricketer must be commended for standing up to the bullies, as England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) was forced to intervene after a lot of public pressure.

Initially, as many as seven players were found guilty of using racist remarks against Azeem Rafiq, but after an investigation, Yorkshire decided to impose no disciplinary action. Soon after, ECB entered the frame and launched a full-proof investigation.

The result of the investigation was charging Yorkshire and several personnel guilty of bullying and using racist remarks. On Twitter, Rafiq revealed that he has been subject to threats, attacks and intimidation ever since he made those accusations two years ago.

Being on the receiving end of such mental turmoil for so long, the 31-year-old wants no other individual or family to go through the same. Earlier, Rafiq also revealed that he had suicidal thoughts because of the never-ending torture he was subjected to.

"From the moment I spoke out about my experiences at YCCC, my family and I have been subjected to threats, attacks and intimidation. Absolutely no individual or their family should be made to feel unsafe and I urge people to respect that," Rafiq wrote in a message on Twitter.

Rafiq made his senior debut for Yorkshire at an early age of just 17, playing in two stints from 2008-2014 and 2016-2018. In First Class Cricket, he managed to pick up 72 wickets in 39 matches at an average of 39.73.
