Kiwi international Maddy Green joins Perth Scorchers for WBBL 2022/23

Experienced New Zealand batter Maddy Green will feature for the defending champions Perth Scorchers in Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2022/23.

Green donned the Brisbane Heat colours in the fifth and sixth editions of the WBBL. In 28 innings, she has accumulated 458 runs, with a top score of 56.

Green made her international debut in a T20I fixture against Australia Women in 2012. Since then, she has scored 521 runs in 49 T20I innings and garnered 945 runs in 46 ODI innings.

Her only century came against Ireland in 2018, wherein she contributed 122 off 77 balls and helped the Kiwi team post a total of 491 in the 50-overs format.

The 29-year-old can keep the score ticking with her composure and change gears in the final few overs of the game.

Green led the Auckland team to the title in the 2017/18 edition of Hallyburton Johnstone Shield. In this pursuit, she had scored 384 runs in 10 innings.

She will play alongside her national team-mate Sophie Devine, who is also the captain of the Scorchers team.

Green expressed her excitement to have joined a successful side, which consists of many talented players.

“Obviously the Scorchers won the last WBBL title and are a really good side, so when Shelley reached out to me, I was certainly keen to jump on board and play alongside some brilliant players,” said Green.

“I know Sophie loves her time over in Perth and was super excited about what the group achieved last year. She also loves working with Shelley and the players and it sounds like a really great group to be part of."

In the end, Green admitted that she has loved being part of the WBBL in the earlier editions and termed it the best league in the world. She hopes to do well in the tournament and prepare for the T20 World Cup next year.

“I loved playing in the WBBL in the past and, in my opinion, it’s the best T20 league in the world. As a cricketer, you want to be part of those competitions and to play against the best in the world, especially leading into the T20 World Cup early next year in South Africa.”
