Morne Morkel wants Faf du Plessis to feature for South Africa in T20 World Cup 2022

The former South African pacer Morne Morkel has expressed his desire to see Faf du Plessis play for his country in the T20 World Cup.

Faf last featured for Proteas in a Test fixture against Pakistan in February 2021. He did not make it to the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup due to Cricket South Africa (CSA) wanting him to play limited overseas leagues and more international games.

On the other hand, the 37-year-old was the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL 2021. This year, he led RCB to the playoffs with solid batting performances.

Morkel thinks Faf has been in good touch in the IPL and wants to see him representing the South Africa side in the ICC event. He added that the CSA should work extensively to include experienced players to strengthen their line-up and win their maiden title.

"You want all your big-name players to play and Faf is still playing well at the age of 37," Morkel told ICC Digital.

"He is still playing well, moving well in the field and he has done exceptionally well for RCB (in the IPL). I would like to see those experienced players in the side. That is up to them (Cricket South Africa) to work out, but I am definitely a big fan of it."

Morkel hails the Proteas bowling unit

The former South African international reckons that the conditions in Australia will suit the current Proteas bowling unit well. He lauded Rabada for his consistent performances and finds Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi valuable assets for the Proteas.

Morkel also added that the South African side are well-balanced for the T20 World Cup 2022.

"I honestly believe they have an attack that is going to suit these conditions well. Kagiso Rabada is a world-class performer, Anrich Nortje did very well at the IPL and Shamsi is a quality spinner. I do believe that it is a well-balanced squad and in T20 cricket these days the teams are so close,” concluded Morkel.
