Shamar Joseph ruled out - (Source: AFP)
In a significant development, the West Indies have dealt a huge blow as their premier seamer, Shamar Joseph, has been ruled out of the ongoing ODIs against Bangladesh. Notably, the right-arm seamer was with the squad in Dhaka, but suffered discomfort in his shoulder during training, which ruled the 26-year-old out of the remaining two games.
Joseph set to travel to England for rehab
West Indies cricket confirmed the development and also added that Jediah Blades has been released from the squad because of a lower stress fracture. Shedding more light on Joseph, he was part of the squad for the first match, but sat on the bench.
"Joseph reported some discomfort in his shoulder during the first training session ahead of the opening ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka. Following a subsequent scan, he has been recommended for consultation with a specialist in England to start the rehabilitation process. Blades has been ruled out of the upcoming matches with a stress fracture to the lower back," tweeted West Indies cricket.
Further, Akeal Hosein and Ramon Simmonds have been drafted into the ODI squad for the remaining matches against Bangladesh as replacements for the injured stars.
Shamar Joseph set to miss 2nd consecutive series with injury
It is the second consecutive series that Joseph will miss because of injury as the right-arm seamer was forced out of the recently-concluded India tour as well, where the Windies lost 0-2 in his absence.
Shamar Joseph was sidelined due to an undisclosed injury, but it seems that he was having trouble with his shoulder only. Further, Johann Layne was named his replacement.
