Moeen Ali to lead England in T20Is, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow likely to be rested for Pakistan tour

England are set to tour Pakistan after a long gap of 17 years. Both teams will clash in a seven-match T20I series in September, just weeks ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Down Under. According to The Guardian, in the absence of Jos Buttler, England is to be led by Moeen Ali.

Buttler suffered an injury during the ongoing The Hundred 2022 league and is eyeing the last leg of the series for a comeback. The first four T20Is will be played in Karachi on 20, 22,23 and 25 September, while the final three matches will be held in Lahore on 28, 30 and October 2.

Moeen was England's vice-captain under former skipper Eoin Morgan and was in contention for a spot post the latter's retirement.

Test skipper Ben Stokes and all-format player Jonny Bairstow are expected to be handed a break, keeping in mind the duo's workload. Hard-hitting batter Liam Livingstone, who is nursing an ankle injury, remains a doubtful starter for the tour.

A lot of domestic players will be in-line to be on the flight to Pakistan. Alex Hales, Phil Salt, Will Smeed, and Will Jacks are in contention for an opening slot. with Roy's continuous poor form.

England's bowling pair Mark Wood and Chris Woakes could also make a comeback after a long layoff due to injury.​
