  • Moeen Ali Backs Englands Aggressive Approach In Tests Tips Them To Beat India

Moeen Ali backs England's aggressive approach in Tests, tips them to beat India

The aggressive approach is working well for the England Test team under the new regime of skipper Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum.

Under the leadership of former skipper Joe Root, the Englishmen delivered their worst performance in the purest format of the game. The Three Lions won just one of their 17 Test matches in the past two years.

To change the trend, the duo of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum have decided to play with an aggressive demeanour. The new leadership has infused positivity in the camp, and the players are freely expressing themselves on the field. The newly-adopted approach has worked well for England so far.

The team won the three-match home Test series against New Zealand by 3-0. It was complete domination from the hosts. Although Stokes and McCullum have been praised for the much-needed change in England's Test approach, there has been some criticism too.

Meanwhile, the ace spinner Moeen Ali is happy with the aggressive brand of cricket and is hopeful of playing the same way in the future. But, speaking about the philosophy, Moeen agreed that it could backfire sometimes.

"The way we were playing, it was quite embarrassing at times. We were playing terribly. With this brand of cricket, I know it's a bit extreme at the minute, but it's just more to give guys the confidence to go out and express themselves.

"I know someone while Ben Stokes was caught at mid-off in the first innings of the last Test. But I think he is showing the team that it's okay to get out playing shots. England do need a bit of that. There will be bad days, but there were not many good days anyways," Moeen Ali said as quoted by Sportskeeda.

Moeen Ali has also backed England to add another feather to their glorious Test cap by winning the 5th rescheduled Test against India at Edgbaston. India currently have a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

However, the visitors will be at a disadvantage as their last Test outing came in March, in home conditions.

The spin all-rounder believes the visiting team had a fair chance of winning the series last year, but England will be the favourites this time.

"If this series had ended last year, India might have won. If you had questioned me 4-5 weeks ago, I would've predicted India's victory. But now I believe England will come out on top. India is a little undercooked.

“India had four games under their belt last year. They have had a practice match and some net training this time. England, in my viewpoint, are the favourite right now because they have just started playing three good Tests and are playing very confidently, especially in comparison to last year," Moeen Ali concluded.
