  • Mccullum Will Have An Instant Impact With England Test Side Says New Zealands Head Coach Gary Stead

McCullum will have an instant impact with England Test side, says New Zealand's head coach Gary Stead

Leading up to the three-Test home series against New Zealand, a lot of chatter has been about Brendon McCullum's brand of cricket, which will start a new era of red-ball cricket in England. Along with new skipper Ben Stokes, McCullum will look to make a winning start to their tenure.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead believes that McCullum will have an instant impact on the game, but English fans need to be patient in the long run.

According to Reuters, Stead said"I have no doubt, knowing Baz (McCullum), that he will have an instant impact Brendon will bring that heart-on-the-sleeve type (of) play, I'm sure, into that England squad. He'll be really clear on what he wants and how he wants them to play the game. (But) … it's still about the players playing the game. I'm sure he will have some impact but whether that's right now or in the future, who knows?"

The English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) appointed the former New Zealand captain as Test head coach after England, under Chris Silverwood, managed to win just one of their last 17 games in the format.

Defending World Test Championship winners will have a lot on their plate, given the absence of Trent Boult and Henry Nicholls ahead of the Lord's Test starting June 2.

The visitors lost their final warm-up match against Select County XI by seven wickets, while the first match against Sussex ended in a draw.

Speaking about his side's chances against the new-look England side, Stead mentioned that the Kiwis have an equal opportunity this time, unlike last year when they were favourites.

"We certainly don't look at it that way. (It's) a 50% chance for both teams of winning the game when you start. It's just winning small moments and then the result will look after itself," he concluded.

The second Test will be held at Trent Bridge on June 10, with the final match being played at Headingley on June 23.
