‘Maybe I'll have to give his dad a call and find out what technical difference he's made’- Steyn on Miller’s knock

Former South African pace bowler Dale Steyn hilariously said that he might have to call David Miller's father to find out what technical change Miller has made to his game.

Steyn's comments came after Miller's man of the match performance helped South Africa to chase down their highest ever T20I total of 212 runs against India in the first T20I of the five-match series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Miller played a blistering 64* off just 31 balls while his teammates struggled on a tricky surface.

Miller hit four boundaries and five sixes in the course of his innings.

"I think it's confidence. He's always had that six-hitting ability. I can't see any difference technically," Dale Steyn as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

"Maybe I'll have to give his dad a call and find out what technical difference he's made.

Now, he seems to be hitting boundaries when he wants to. If he feels under pressure, he can hit the ball for six. Every time he hits a six, he genuinely hits the ball a long way," Steyn said.

Miller was one of the key reasons why the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans team won the IPL 2022 trophy on their home ground in Ahmedabad. He had his most prolific IPL 2022 season, amassing 481 runs (third highest for Titans) at an average of 68.71 and a blistering strike rate of 142.73 while batting in the middle order.

Steyn credited Miller's successful season with the Titans prior to this series for his phenomenal form with the bat.

"Since then, he's just been on this upward curve. Got the nod with the (Gujarat) Titans. Hardik Pandya gave him the freedom to express himself with the bat. It just seems like he's gotten better and better. He put on the South African jersey today (Thursday) and just continued from where he left off at the IPL. He's been phenomenal," Steyn further added.
