Matthew Mott excited to work alongside white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan

England's newly appointed limited-overs head coach Matthew Mott has said that he and captain Eoin Morgan have similar ideas and align with their philosophy.

Mott was selected as the head coach of England's white-ball setup by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) selection panel consisting of Rob Key, Tom Harrison, Andrew Strauss, and Mo Bobat.

Mott previously coached Australia's Women's team, winning two consecutive ICC T20 World Cups (2018 and 2019). They won the latest Women's 50-over World Cup as well. Under Mott's tenure, the Australian women's team went unbeaten in 26 one-day games, a record across men's and women's cricket.

With an eye on the ICC Men's World Cup in India next year, he'll be working with the current World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan, and Mott believes that his philosophy matches with Morgan when it comes to developing the brand of cricket the team should play.

"We (Morgan and I) seem very aligned on our general philosophy and how we think the team should play, but it'll be nice just having the opportunity in the playing group to talk a little bit more to that and answer any questions, and just develop that connection," Matthew Mott told cricket.com.au.

"The team's functioning quite well. It's just about how we get those incremental gains because that sustained success is what England is craving. They're pretty comfortable that they've got a good team and good depth but trying to compete in every tournament is what they want to do. Hopefully, the experiences I've had with what we've done (with Australia) might be able to add another layer to that," Mott added.

Mott's first assignment will be England's three-match away ODI series against the Netherlands in June.
