T20 Blast 2022 | YORK vs WORC | Harry Brook's whirlwind knock powers Yorkshire to a 7-wicket win

Harry Brook continued his brilliant form in the ongoing summer as the young right-handed batsman swatted aside the Worcestershire attack to all corners during his unbeaten 27-ball 60 to power Yorkshire Vikings to a 7-wicket win in the Vitality Blast opener.

The hard-hitting batter smashed six fours and three audacious sixes, including a disdainful back-foot punch over the cover region.

He had Joe Root for company, who also gave a good account of himself with his bread and butter shots. The Yorkshire pair added 87 unbeaten runs for the 4th wicket to guide their side to a comfortable 7-wicket win.

This was after the opening duo of Adam Lyth (40 off 24), and Dawid Malan (33 off 30) got Yorkshire off to a blazing start to their run-chase of 173.

The duo added 70 runs in just over 7 overs before Ed Barnard and Brett D'Oliveira landed a double blow by dismissing Lyth and Tom Kohler-Cadmore in quick succession.

Malan followed suit thanks to Charlie Morris, but it didn't matter in the end as Brook and Root (35*off 24) make a mockery of the target.

Jack Haynes' 61 (33) guided Worcestershire Rapids to 172

Batting first, Worcestershire Rapids rode on a rapid 33-ball 61 from Jack Haynes to post 172/9 in 20 overs.

The Rapids got off to a poor start to their innings as they lost opener Ed Pollock (5 off 6) in just the 2nd over to spinner Dom Bess.

However, Haynes and Brett D'Oliveira ensured that Worcestershire took full toll of the power play as they launched a stunning assault on the likes of Jordan Thompson and Joe Root to take the total to 70 after 6.

D'Oliveria was eventually dismissed by Root in the 6th over but not before he had smashed 32 off just 16 deliveries.

However, Haynes continued with his onslaught against the spinners as he smashed Adil Rashid and Shadab Khan for three sixes in the next 4 overs to race his way to a 26-ball half-century.

He was eventually dismissed by Revis in the 12th over.

Thompson (3/35 in 4) came back brilliantly after conceding 22 runs in his first over as he dismissed both Jake Libby (25 off 27) and Ben Cox (11 off 12) in his 2nd over to reduce Rapids to 146/5 in 16.

Worcestershire did not get the final over flourish that they could have hoped for as they managed just 26 in the last 4 to finish at 172/9
