In a huge setback for Royal Challengers Bangalore, ace batter Rajat Patidar is doubtful for the first half of IPL 2023 due to an injury.

As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, the stylish right-handed batter sustained a heel injury just before joining the RCB camp. He has apparently been advised to rest for three weeks. The severity of his injury will be determined by an MRI scan, which will also decide if he will participate in the second half of the tournament.

Patidar's absence could be a significant blow to RCB, who are desperate to end their title drought this season. The batter played a crucial role for the franchise in the IPL 2022, amassing 333 runs, including a scintillating 54-ball 112* in the all-important eliminator to propel his team to qualifier 2.

Batting at number three, the 29-year-old grabbed a million eyeballs, playing some really impactful knocks for the Bangalore-based franchise in the tournament.

His ability to effectively counter both pace and spin established him as an x-factor in the star-studded RCB batting lineup. Thus, his injury could devoid RCB from getting the initial momentum that every team needs at the start of the tournament.

Earlier, the Faf du Plessis-led team lost Will Jacks for the entire season due to injury. Recently, they added New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell to the squad as the Englishman's replacement.
