In a recent development, New Zealand Cricket announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. Despite blowing hot and cold in T20Is this year, veteran opener Martin Guptill managed to make it into the team.

Notably, this will be Guptill's seventh World Cup; thus, he is on the verge of setting the record for most T20 World Cup appearances by a New Zealand player.

In this process, the swashbuckling batter will join the elite list of players in Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim, who have represented their countries in seven T20 World Cups.

Since debuting in 2009, Guptill has established himself as a vital cog of the New Zealand T20 team. Overall, the 35-year-old is the third-highest run-getter in T20Is with 3497 runs at a healthy strike rate of 135.81.

However, Guptill has underperformed in T20 world Cups, scoring 617 runs at an ordinary average of 24.68 and a mediocre strike rate of 114.25.

Considering his age, this will probably be his final World Cup outing. Therefore, we expect the legendary batter to sign off with an impactful performance in the showpiece event.
