Former Indian seam-bowling all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar has been appointed head coach of the Nepal Men's cricket team.

The former cricketer replaces Pubudu Dassanayake, who relinquished the role last month, citing personal reasons in a bid to pursue a similar role in Canada.

Speaking on the development, Prabhakar expressed his delight at the opportunity to coach a side, which he feels has a lot of talent and skill level.

The former seamer said that is looking forward to making Nepal a force to reckon with in international cricket.

"Seeing the interest for cricket in Nepal, their talent and skill level, I'm really looking forward to working with the Nepal cricket team to make them into a cricketing force to be reckoned with," as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

Nepal are currently sweating it out in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. The Asian side are currently languishing at the 2nd last spot in the table, having managed just 8 victories while suffering 11 defeats. In the recent ICC Men's T20 Global Qualifier A, Nepal topped their group but went down to the United Arab Emirates in the semi-final.

Manoj Prabhakar has previously coached Afghanistan Cricket Team

Speaking of Prabhakar, the veteran cricketer has immense experience of coaching at the national as well as international level.

The cricketer has coached Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh teams in the past. He was also the bowling coach of the Delhi side that clinched the Ranji Trophy in 2008.

However, Prabhakar was eventually dismissed on the eve of the 2011-12 season following his critical remarks on the players and selectors.

The former Indian opener has also coached Afghanistan in 2015, leading them to a historic win over eventual champions West Indies at the 2016 T20 World Cup.
