Lauren Bell excited to share the dressing room with Katherine Brunt

England women's pacer Lauren Bell is looking forward to sharing the dressing room and learning from Katherine Brunt in the ODI series against South Africa.

After impressing in the one-off Test against South Africa, the youngster Lauren Bell had earned her maiden call-up to the ODI squad. She picked up two wickets in the rain-curtailed encounter, which ended in a draw.

Bell said that everyone missed Brunt in the one-off Test match against South Africa as she retired from the red ball format to prolong her white-ball career. The right-arm seamer also stated that she's learning from Brunt's work ethic.

"Everyone missed Katherine (Brunt) at the Test match, she's got such an energy about her and it's great to have her back.

"In training, she just wants to give off all of her knowledge and just share everything she's got on to me and Izzy Wong, for example. She's got a real energy about her and even though she's played for quite a while now she still just loves it."

"Anya (Shrubsole) and Katherine (Brunt) have been so amazing for so many years now, but I think it's really exciting that there's a group of us coming through," Bell said.

Bell and Wong were first involved with the charity at primary school and were both handed their international debuts in the Test match at Taunton against South Africa, following the retirements of Anya Shrubsole and Katherine Brunt.

And realising England's pace battery is in the middle of a transition phase, Bell said that all young bowlers like Wong and Davies are trying to break into the squad.

"Me and Izzy (Issy Wong) and Freya (Davies) are all in the same situation, we're all trying to break into the squad and doing everything we can so it's really nice to have other people in the same situation.

The 21-year-old cricketer understands that there's a natural competition in the squad, which is exciting for England cricket as it gives the luxury of many options.

"Obviously, there's that natural competition but it's exciting for England cricket and it's great to have so many options and so many youngsters coming through," concluded Bell.
