Laura Wolvaardt puts pen to paper for a contract extension with Adelaide Strikers
Laura Wolvaardt will remain with the Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL
South Africa batter Laura Wolvaardt has agreed to extend a contract with Adelaide Strikers for one more year. This will be her third appearance in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL).
The prolific batter emerged as the Strikers' leading run-scorer in the 2020-21 season with 347 runs in 14 innings. She contributed 381 runs in the latest edition to help the team in reaching the finals.
Wolvaardt delighted with the extension
The 23-year-old expressed her excitement to represent Strikers, and thinks they are well on their course to register a strong performance in the upcoming season.
“I love playing for Adelaide and am so happy that I will return this year. We were so close to the title last year and I know that as a team, we can take that next step this season.
“The fans around Australia love the WBBL and support us so well, I am really excited to see everyone again and hopefully put together a strong season.”
Will Wolvaardt help Strikers to clinch their first-ever WBBL title?
Apart from Wolvaardt being the key run-scorer for Strikers, she has been a consistent run-scorer for the Proteas team in international cricket.
Earlier this year, the top-order batter slammed 433 runs in eight innings to take South Africa to the semi-finals in the ODI World Cup. Furthermore, she emerged as the top run-scorer for Proteas with 69 runs in the recent Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022.
Strikers will certainly look to lift their first-ever WBBL title by securing the services of the in-form batter Wolvaardt.
