South African cricketer Laura Wolvaardt is set to be appointed as the permanent captain of the national women’s team, following her successful stint as the interim captain during the series against Pakistan and New Zealand.

Wolvaardt ready to rebrace permanent role as South Africa's captain

Her initial hesitation about the role, stemming from concerns about its potential impact on her batting performance, has been alleviated after she led the run-scoring charts in the T20 series against Pakistan and secured the second position in the ODIs against New Zealand.

According to an ESPNcricinfo report, Wolvaardt is expected to officially take over the captaincy before South Africa's upcoming series against Bangladesh in December. This series will mark the end of the current coaching staff's tenure, including head coach Hilton Moreeng, who has been instrumental in the team's development since 2012 and guided them to the T20 World Cup final earlier this year.

Moreeng's contract concluded after the World Cup, but due to delays in finding a replacement by Cricket South Africa (CSA), his contract was extended until the end of 2023, despite some disagreements from players.

CSA has now progressed in its search for a new head coach, with the selection process in its final stages. The announcement of the new coach is anticipated before South Africa's tour of Australia next year.

Additionally, CSA is in the process of appointing a head of women's cricket, a role that will be under the supervision of Enoch Nkwe, CSA's director of cricket. The deadline for applications for this position was July 14, and the selection process is ongoing.
