Lanka Premier League 3 | Player’s draft to be held on July 5

The Players' draft for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be held on July 5 (Tuesday). The Tournament will take place from July 31 to August 21 at RPICS, Colombo and MRICS, Hambantota.

The draft will consist of 353 players, including 180 foreign and 173 Sri Lankan players. All the first-class players, international, and retired cricketers of the Island nation will mark their presence in the draft.

The draft will get underway at 5 pm and will see the LPL Governance Committee's participation and the franchise owners.

Last month, Sri Lanka Cricket invited overseas players to register for the drafts.

With the draft consisting of 20 rounds, the players' five categories will be "International Ruby,' 'International Sapphire,' 'International Diamond' A,' and 'B,' and International Platinum.

Sri Lanka 'Gold Round' will focus on the emerging local talent below 23 years of age, which is capped to two players per team.

Squad Size and Retention Rules

The teams can retain a maximum of two overseas players and four Sri Lankan players from their squad of the last edition.

In the pre-draft, the franchises have been given the freedom to sign two Sri Lankans and as many overseas players. The remaining spots will be filled in the Player Drafts.

After the culmination of drafts, the squads will consist of 20 players, with 14 Sri Lankan and six foreign players.

The last edition of the LPL took place in December 2021 and witnessed Jaffna Kings emerging as the champions.
