I want to see Uganda play at the World Cup: Uganda’s vice-captain

With ICC Men's T20 World Cup qualifiers just around the corner, teams are ready to propel themselves to the big stage. Uganda, which is currently ranked 25 in the ICC Men's T20I rankings, will also fight to gain a spot in this year's World Cup.

Deusdedit Muhumuza, Uganda's vice-captain, is all ready for the challenge as they will face Hong Kong on the 11th of this month.

The 32-year-old right-arm medium bowler holds the game close to his heart. After being born into a normal family in Uganda, he learned cricket from the Asian community he lived alongside.

"I grew up around an Asian community, so I got to learn about cricket easily because that is what they speak and is what they love most," said Muhumuza.

Then we went on to the best cricketing school in the country and didn't have to look back again. The struggle was real as the game wasn't that popular, and the chances of benefiting from the game were scarce.

"Of course, there are sacrifices they make, so they balance out where their son comes in class and how he moves ahead with his passion for cricket,"

Muhumuza stated. But he still treads the tough path of representing his country on the international stage.

After a drought in the international arena, Uganda is making their return to the Qualifiers, having not featured since 2013.

It won't be clear waters for Uganda as they are placed in a strong group with Papua New Guinea, the Netherlands and Hong Kong.

The newly appointed vice-captain will hope to make their debut in the ICC Men's World Cup, not just for the team but for the 46 million people he represents.

"I want to see Uganda play at the World Cup." "I want Uganda to get this feeling of what happens at the biggest stage of cricket" he added.

It will be inspirational for many youngsters in Uganda if their team manages to achieve his humongous feat. In the bigger picture, that's all that cricket wants- To bring out hope and passion in each individual who loves the sport.
