In what was the successful ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India became the third-time champions of the marquee tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team defeated New Zealand in the finals of the eight-team event that was hosted by Pakistan while Men in Blue played all their matches in Dubai.

JioHotstar Achieve Record Numbers For Champions Trophy 2025

In what proved to be one of the most successful events in ICC history, the Indian side led by Rohit Sharma earned their third Champions Trophy title in the recently concluded eight-team marquee tournament. Despite being the official host, the final was not played in Pakistan but in Dubai, where the Indian team stayed throughout the course of the 15-match tournament.

However, this did not impact the viewership or ratings of the tournament in any manner as the official streaming partner of the tournament, JioHotstar, owned by the media conglomerate JioStar, recorded unbelievable numbers.

The event, which took place from February 19th to March 9th, saw a total of 540.3 crore views overall during the tournament. For the record, India has a total population of 143.81 crore, while China, the second most populous country in the world, has a recorded population of 141.07 crore. Combining these, the total population turns out to be 285 crore, which is significantly less than what JioHotstar achieved during this high-profile event.

The official broadcaster of the tournament, JioStar, streamed the matches live on the platform JioHotstar, while their linear TV channels, Star Sports and Sports18, telecasted the matches live on their channels.

As for other records, a total watch time of 11000 crore minutes was received during the tournament, while 6.2 crore was the peak concurrent viewership.

Moreover, the India-New Zealand final that took place on March 9th in Dubai saw a total of 124.2 crore viewers tuning in, where the Men in Blue earned the prestigious title after defeating the Black Caps by four wickets in a tense finale.

Hindi, The Most Preferred Language By Indians

The media release which was presented in front of the press declared that 38% of viewership came from the Hindi-speaking regions in the country, which included Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Goa, Punjab, and Haryana.

Adding to this, the newly popular Connected TV (CTV) technology, where matches can be streamed live on televisions, was mostly preferred by people in Maharashtra, where the highest viewership was achieved via this technology.

It’s important to know that JioHotstar was formed after the amalgamation of Viacom18 and Disney-Star as the both broadcasting companies merged to form a media behemoth in the form of JioStar Network. The same network will now be broadcasting the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2025 edition in various languages and different feeds while using the latest technologies.
