Jason Sangha hopes to maintain consistency in BBL 12

Sydney Thunder's young and talented player Jason Sangha seems determined to maintain his consistency in the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) after signing a two-year contract extension to stay at the Thunder's camp.

Sangha, who had a fantastic outing for the Thunder last season, stated that the pressure on him to keep up his consistency would likely elevate his performance in BBL 12. The stylish NSW batter also expressed his desire to amaze the Thunder fans with his consistent returns in the tournament.

"I don't really need to do anything crazily different (this season), but there is that bit of an expectation (to back up last season's form). So I like having a little bit of pressure on me, I think it brings out the best in myself, and I want to give Thunder fans some sort of consistency with batting," Sangha said.

Things weren't smooth for the youngster some time back, as he was benched for a couple of years by the Thunder management. But in that dormant period, he continued working on his game, taking inspiration from the senior pros like Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales and Sam Billings.

"Having a couple of years where I wasn't playing, I had to really look at guys who had performed well like Alex Hales, Sam Billings and Usman Khawaja trying to pick (up) what they do, and for them, it was just keeping it really simple," he shared.

Continuing, Sangha also said that working with a coach as experienced as Bayliss has immensely helped him.

The Randwick-born, who finished as the fifth-highest run-getter of BBL 11 with 445 runs at 49.44, admitted to having enjoyed working under Bayliss as the experienced coach provides freedom and role clarity to all the players.

"He gives you the freedom to express yourself, but at the same time, he's the first person to come to you when you need to hear some honest advice (and) feedback," Sangha said. "That brand of player-coach relationship is something I've never experienced before, and what I appreciated is he understands the importance of clear and calm communication," the 22-year-old concluded.
