In a significant development, veteran Australian batter Shaun Marsh has decided to announce his retirement from the country's premier domestic red-ball competition, Sheffield Shield, following the 2022-23 home season. Regarded as a legend for the IPL franchise Punjab Kings, Marsh has been a force to reckon with the bat for Western Australia in the Australian domestic circuit.

Marsh, who led Western Australia to the title in the Sheffield Shield last season, is doubtful for this year's finale against Victoria, set to take place from the 23rd of this month.

However, even if he misses the encounter, the stylish southpaw will go down as one of the finest-ever batters to represent Western Australia in their rich cricketing history.

Regarded as one of the most consistent top-order batters in the Australian domestic circuit, Marsh has amassed 8347 runs for his state, sitting only behind Tom Moody (8853) and the legendary Justin Langer (9406) in the highest run-getters' list.

Despite being incredibly talented, Marsh could represent Australia in only 126 matches across formats due to the presence of opening batters like David Warner and Aaron Finch.

He has played 71 games for Punjab Kings in the IPL, garnering 2477 runs at a magnificent average of 39.95 between 2008 and 2017.

Although he will retire from red-ball cricket, the 39-year-old will feature in the Big Bash League for Melbourne Renegades in the upcoming season.
