IPL 2025: KL Rahul Joins Delhi Capitals; Likely To Play Vs Lucknow Super Giants

Perhaps the best news for the Delhi Capitals as their superstar signing for the IPL 2025 season, KL Rahul has joined the squad ahead of the first match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday, March 24. KL Rahul, who represented LSG in the last season was acquired by the Capitals for INR 14 crore and was expected to play a major role.

The Delhi Capitals announced his arrival with KL in black shadow and a Tiger in the background, symbolising that he, himself, is a Tiger and will roar in the upcoming IPL 2025 season.

Will KL Rahul play Vs LSG?

There were reports circulating that KL Rahul might miss the initial few matches of the IPL as his wife, Athiya Shetty is expecting the birth of their first child. Reports stated that KL might have missed the first three matches at-least, but now with him joining the squad, there are good chances that he'll make his debut for the Capitals on Monday against his former IPL side.

KL captained LSG for three seasons (2022-24), but had a tough relation with owner Sanjiv Goenka in the last season and he was released from the team ahead of the mega auction last year.

The 14 crore buy is expected to play in the middle order with Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk set to open.

KL Rahul declines DC captaincy

As per reports, KL Rahul was offered the DC captaincy by the owners, but he declined the offer as he wanted to concentrate on his batting. As a result, Axar Patel was made the captain of the team.
