  • Ipl 2022 Yuzvendra Chahal Hasaranga Join Elite Pack Amidst Flourishing Season

IPL 2022 | Yuzvendra Chahal, Hasaranga join elite pack amidst flourishing season

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise for the ongoing IPL 2022 season. The cricketer set the cash registers ringing at the auction after his former side, RCB, decided to release him. Remarkably, Chahal has enjoyed a prolific season so far, claiming wickets at will and snatching a hat-trick along the way.

After releasing the Indian spin wizard, the RCB management decided to rope in Sri Lanka’s enigma machine Wanindu Hasaranga. Serving as Chahal’s replacement, Hasaranga also thrived with the ball with his wicket-taking abilities and economical overs in the middle.

Being the top two bowlers of the season in terms of wickets, the two cricketers have constantly exchanged Purple Cap with each other throughout the ongoing tournament.

Yuzvendra Chahal, Wanindu Hasaranga join Imran Tahir’s past IPL record

While Chahal has captured 26 wickets across 15 IPL 2022 games for Rajasthan Royals, his RCB replacement has claimed 25 wickets in the same number of matches. The two cricketers have now joined CSK legend Imran Tahir to become the only spinners in IPL history to collect 25 or more wickets in a single IPL season.

In IPL 2019, Tahir picked 26 wickets from 17 games for CSK. In doing so, the former South African cricketer also won the Purple Cap and was instrumental in his side’s runners-up campaign that year.

As this season’s Purple Cap race heats up between Chahal and Hasaranga, the two spinners will face each other in the Qualifier 2 on May 27.

The Rajasthan Royals will be taking on the RCB at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The winner of the match will face Gujarat Titans in the final a couple of days later.

In hindsight, the winner might also determine which of the two bowling stars will claim the coveted Purple Cap by the end of the IPL 2022 season.

Everest Premier League files petition against Cricket Association of Nepal's official T20 league

T20 cricket is a money-spinning business model that every cricket governing body wants to implement. Last week, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced the country's first-ever official 20-over league title, Nepal T20. Even before the event's commencement, it is facing opposition from the organizers of the Everest Premier League (EPL) T20. The owners, Everest Premier League Private Ltd, and all six franchises have filed a writ petition in Nepal's Supreme Court on Thursday, asking for a stay order over the planned CAN's league. According to Kathmandu Post, EPL's statement read, "EPL and all franchises have unanimously decided to seek appropriate legal recourse as per the prevailing laws of Nepal. Therefore, a writ petition has been filed before the Supreme Court of Nepal, praying for a stay order against the erroneous decision of CAN. We have full faith and humbly believe that the judiciary will grant us appropriate remedy." EPL owners also want CAN to do away with their deal with Seven3Sports, which handles the commercial and strategic side of the tournament. The event management firm is based in India. The planned Nepal T20 League will commence on September 24 and end on October 22. The premier governing body for cricket in Nepal has made it clear that they will not sanction any other T20 league in the country. The EPL T20 League started in 2016 and is about to begin its fifth edition in November. In their statement, all concerned parties in the EPL have stated that they will boycott all cricketing events organized by CAN if their league is not approved. "Availing the services of a foreign company by discretely entering into a private agreement and neglecting the prevalent laws of Nepal not only raises numerous questions about the entire decision-making process and the motive of CAN, but is also non-transparent, arbitrary and deeply encroaches upon our legal and constitutional rights," the press release said. EPL has seen foreign players like Shahid Afridi, Upul Tharanga, Paul Stirling, Sikander Raza, and Tamim Iqbal, amongst others, participate over the years.
