IPL 2022 | Winning IPL high point of my career, says Rashid Khan

Afghanistan's leg-spinner Rashid Khan was Gujarat Titans' (GT) trump card across their Indian Premier League (IPL)-winning run in 2022. Rashid's run-pinching overs made it challenging for the opposition to gain momentum, similar is what happened in the IPL final on Sunday evening between the Titans and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Ahmedabad.

The wily bowler gave away just 18 runs in his quota of four overs, picking up the crucial wicket of Devdutt Padikkal while also keeping Jos Buttler in check at one end.

After the win, Rashid said that winning the IPL was the highest point of his short career. Speaking to the official broadcaster post-match, Rashid said"Biggest achievement of your career is to be part of a winning IPL team. You always want to do well in big competitions like this. Winning tournaments like this, you'll need to put in a lot of hard work and this is certainly a high point of my career."

This was Rashid's second T20 title this year, having won the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with Lahore Qalandars (LQ) in February. He finished as the second-highest (19) wicket-taker for the Ahmedabad-based franchise behind Mohammed Shami (20).

Rashid also explained Gujarat's bowling tactics while commending his teammate Shubman Gill in the process. "We assessed the wicket well; we knew it would be hard to chase down 150. Everyone had to take responsibility, we did well to come back well in the middle overs. He is the only guy whom we didn't want to bowl to and I'm happy that he's part of our team (on Shubman Gill)," the former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) player said.

Gill scored an unbeaten 45 in the Titans' 131 run-chase at the Narendra Modi Stadium with help from skipper Hardik Pandya (34) and David Miller (32*).

Playing for Lahore, the leg-spinner picked up 13 wickets in nine games before flying to Bangladesh for national duty, missing out on the final against Multan Sultans (MS).

Rashid also won the Big Bash League (BBL) with Adelaide Strikers in 2018.

Pakistan makes me feel at home, says T20 WC winning captain Daren Sammy after receiving 'Sitara-I-Pakistan'

The Pakistan government has recognized former West Indies skipper Daren Sammy for his dedication to the sport in spreading cricket across their country. Sammy has been associated with the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi (PZ) since its inaugural season in 2016. The Saint Lucia-born enabled West Indies to win the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup despite his infighting with board officials, which saw his place from the side taken away after winning the coveted trophy. Sammy took to social media to share the news and thanked the Pakistani government and the people for their esteemed honour. "Cricket took me all over the world enabling me to see and play in some amazing places. Pakistan is definitely one of these places. A place that always makes me feel at home. It's such an honour to have received this prestigious award (Sitara-I-Pakistan) from the Government and people of Pakistan. Thank you," his Instagram post read. Sammy, who captained Zalmi in the second edition, helped them win their only title in 2017. He was also their head coach for two years after retiring as a player. Sammy was instrumental in bringing international cricket back to Pakistan and was awarded the second-highest civilian medal by Pakistan. Nishan-e-Pakistan, in 2020. Apart from that, the all-rounder was given honorary Pakistani citizenship. Sammy has also received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth II. Sammy, who was the first player from St. Lucia to play international cricket, has represented the Caribbean nation in 38 Tests, 126 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. Last year, Sammy was named as an independent non-member director on the board for Cricket West Indies (CWI). He has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).
