IPL 2022 | 'Whether it’s 99 or 100, winning the game is important' - Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad played a victorious match and thrashed the Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune last Sunday (May 1).

Gaikwad and Devon Conway shared an opening-wicket partnership of 182 runs, where he scored a marvellous 99 to help Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) beat SRH by 13 runs.

Post the game that went down to the last ball; the India batter shared his heart in an interview with fast bowler Mukesh Choudhary.

“It’s always special to score big at your home-ground, but more importantly, I’m happy because I contributed towards the team’s win,” Gaikwad claimed.

CSK batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was a bit upset as he missed out on his century. “Getting out on 99 made me a little sad, but I was happy that I was able to gain momentum and take the pressure off Devon,” Gaikwad shared as he expressed pride in helping his team.

After the openers laid the platform, MS Dhoni-led Super Kings managed to set SRH a big target of 203 to chase down. The 25-year old, who has a great camaraderie with the Kiwi batter, lauded Conway after the latter notched his maiden half-century in the T20 league.

“I am delighted for him as it was only his second match, and he scored his maiden IPL fifty. We haven’t played together much, but we spend a lot of time in my room. We already had off-field conversations and thankfully, we shared a decent partnership.”

The Chennai Super Kings are now placed 9th on the points table. They are next set to lock horns with Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Wednesday, May 4, at the same venue.
