IPL 2022 | Virat Kohli registers his third golden duck of the season

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper took another decisive blow against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 54th match of the IPL 2022 started off in the worst possible way for Virat Kohli as he returned to the pavilion with a golden duck, yet again.

On the very first ball of the match, Kohli tried to flick spinner Jagadeesha Suchith but directed a simple catch towards SRH skipper Kane Williamson.

Stunned by the incident, fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment. It was Kohli's third golden duck in IPL 2022. His previous golden duck was also against Hyderabad at the hands of Marco Jansen.

The star batsman has been struggling to keep up with his expectations. His poor form has been consistent and unwavering. Kohli had stepped down as captain in all forms of the game last year, but things haven't worked out for the Indian talisman.

Fans and peers believed that since Kohli gave up the captaincy, he would continue his stint as the highest run-scorer in the IPL. But his below par run spell continued nevertheless.

He has accounted for a meagre 216 runs in 11 innings, which, compared to his previous IPL performances, is modest, to say the least.

The right-handed batter is undoubtedly having a forgettable season. As a result, cricketing pundits have raised their concerns and have advised Kohli to take a well needed 'break' from the game.

Former cricketers are apprehensive about India's future ahead of the T20 World Cup this year. As one of the leading batters of team India, Virat's form will be crucial for the team.

Although the former skipper has nothing to prove, he has certainly set a precedent for himself. And in order to perform in accord with his previous accomplishments, he has to make sure that he is not overworked and overwhelmed in the current season of the IPL.

'India's enormous depth in pace bowling is the envy of most countries': Ian Chappell

Former Australian captain Ian Chappell has credited the fast bowling group for India's overseas success in Test cricket. The legendary Aussie batter opined that the development of the fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj has been pivotal in team India's success in the longest version of the game overseas. Further, he stated that Umran Malik's 'raw pace' will be hard to ignore. "Nowadays, India's enormous depth in pace bowling is the envy of most countries. The development of star quick bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj has been instrumental in India's improved overseas reputation. There is also a depth below that group, in the successful Ishant Sharma, the underrated Umesh Yadav, and handy back-up in Shardul Thakur," Chappell wrote in his column for ESPNCricinfo. The cricketer-turned-commentator and one of the game's biggest analysts for many years now believes that India has evolved as a Test-playing nation. Also, Chappell reckoned that the Indian team is difficult to beat under any playing conditions. "India have evolved from a team that had a reputation where some players treasured the blazer, sweater, and cap more than actual selection in the Test side, to one that was extremely difficult to beat under any conditions," he added. Like other teams from the sub-continent, India has been known for producing world-class spinners, but the current crop of fast bowlers has reversed that theory in the last few years. The pace quartet is not only lethal but economical at the same time when they set a batsman into a trap without leaking runs. Many cricket pundits like Chappell have praised the Indian pacers for the success away from home in the longest format of the game.
