IPL 2022 | ‘To get compared to one of the greats is pretty special’- Conway on comparison with Hussey

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Devon Conway has said that he feels special when he is compared with CSK's batting coach Michael Hussey.

Conway played a scintillating knock of 49-ball 87 laced with seven boundaries and five sixes to power CSK to 208/6 against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. When asked about his comparisons with the current batting coach of CSK, Michael Hussey, Conway said it feels special to be compared with Hussey.

"Yeah, I think I have heard (comparison with Hussey) that is quite good a few times now. To get compared to one of the greats, Mike Hussey is pretty special to be possible in that bracket. I think he has got so much knowledge and so much experience not only in the IPL but throughout the world. So just very important for me as a player to continue talking to him and learning from him and just getting some guidelines when I need it," said Devon Conway in the post-match press conference.

The defending champions have found it challenging to find the winning momentum in the ongoing season. However, Conway is confident that the yellow army will come back stronger in the next season.

"Certainly, I think we have got a very strong team, a very strong squad. The results have not quite gone our way this year. We are not quite out of the competition, though. We have some seriously classy players in the setup with good experience and really good young guys coming through. So, there is no doubt that we will come back stronger next year and play some really good cricket," added Conway.

In his IPL career, Hussey aggregated more than 1,900 runs in 58 innings, with his highest being an unbeaten 116. The current batting coach of CSK was also the first-ever centurion in the cash-rich league for the four-time IPL winners. Conway, on the other hand, has been brilliant at the top for CSK since his inception in the playing eleven. The left-handed batter has already stuck three half-centuries in the four games he played this season.
