'He can be our lead fast bowler in Test cricket' - Desmond Haynes on Jayden Seales

As Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced the squad for the upcoming white-ball tours of the Netherlands and Pakistan, one of the notable inclusion was Jayden Seales.

Seales, who has earned his maiden ODI call-up, will lead the new-look pace unit of the West Indies, with Jason Holder given rest on the grounds of workload management.

The 20-year-old has been a sensational figure for the Windies in the Test arena, and in a brief career of seven international red-ball matches, he has claimed 27 wickets.

The lead selector of the West Indies men's cricket team, Desmond Haynes, was all praise for the Trinidadian. Haynes has been impressed with Seales' bowling in Test cricket and is confident that the speedster will soon lead their pace attack in the format.

"Jayden (Seales) looked apart to me. He is someone that I hope would take the mantle as our lead fast bowler in Test cricket going forward because we have been very impressed with him from day one. He is someone who can be the leader of our fast bowling (unit)," Haynes showered praise on Seales in the virtual press conference held on Monday.

Further, the 66-year-old selector asserted that in the ODIs, they are always searching for the bowlers who can pick up the early wickets, and Seales can primarily perform the same job.

"In the fifty-over competition, we always talk about looking for people who can get wickets early. He is bowling so well, and we think that he will do a job for us in the upcoming two tours," the former West Indies batter added.

Seales was the joint-highest wicket-taker for his side in the last Test series against England with 11 scalps to his name in three matches and had a big hand in West Indies' 1-0 win over the 'Three Lions'.
