IPL 2022 | Shreyas Iyer is a born leader, says David Hussey

Kolkata Knight Riders mentor, David Hussey has applauded the appointment of Shreyas Iyer as their captain for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, stating that the India batter seems to be a 'true leader' who has clarity of what he wants to achieve with the team as well.

However, the Knight Riders appointed Iyer as their captain after letting go of Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan before the mega auction of IPL 2022. And then they bought Iyer for INR 12.25 crore at the mega auction last month.

The India batter had earlier led Delhi Capitals to their maiden final in 2020, but he didn't lead them last season and later moved away from Delhi to play for Kolkata.

"Shreyas is a born leader, just the way he walks around; he commands respect. Knowing Pat (Cummins) really well, he would be a good deputy and would also lead from the front," Hussey told reporters recently.

"But the way Shreyas has captained in the past for Delhi, he has a very good cricket brain and a nice vision of how to play the game and I think he will express himself really well. I think it's a smart move from Brendon McCullum and KKR management, the Australian concluded.

The Knight Riders are touted to be one of the best squads picked in this year’s IPL mega auction, as they ticked all the boxes present. It will be interesting how they kickstart their campaign starting from March 26.
