IPL 2022 | Rishabh Pant reaches 4000 runs in T20 cricket

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has reached another milestone in his cricketing career, which he could be proud of. The left-handed batter crossed the 4000 run mark in T20 cricket as Delhi got the better of Rajasthan by 8 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last night.

Pant was on the receiving end of considerable heat a few days back when he breached the IPL code of conduct in a match against the same opponents. The incident took place after the umpire denied a no-ball to his team, following which the young captain failed to control his emotions. As a result, he was fined a hefty amount for his actions.

This time around against Rajasthan, Pant had a point to prove. Though he did not contribute a lot of runs with the bat, the heavy-hitter finished the game in style as his team successfully chased down the 161 runs required to win. Pant ended the match with an unbeaten 13 of just 4 deliveries. His cameo included two sixes.

As far as his T20 career is concerned, the wicket-keeper is stationed at 4004 runs in 154 innings. He has a decent average of 33.09 with an excellent strike rate of 146.55. He has gone past the 50-run mark 22 times while scoring 2 tons. With a best of 128, Pant has hit 186 sixes in his T20 career so far.

The 24-year-old was delighted to have shrugged off the bad times and pulled off a win against Rajasthan. He opined that it was almost a perfect performance for the team, but there are areas where Delhi can look to improve.

“It was close to a perfect game as I believe there is always space for improvement. On these kinds of wickets where there is little turn, it can go either way. I am happy we bowled first. I thought 140-160 was a good score and said so at the toss. And we got there. Destiny is always on your hands, you can look to give 100 percent. The fielding could be better, but this was close to a perfect game,” said Pant after the match.

The Delhi franchise are currently placed 5th in the points table and will next face Punjab Kings on 16th May at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
