IPL 2022| Rajasthan Royals played good cricket, proud of my team, says skipper Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals (RR) came extremely close to winning their second Indian Premier League (IPL) title last evening but faltered at the final hurdle against eventual winners Gujarat Titans (GT).

Opting to bat first, the Sanju Samson-led side could not get going and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Rajasthan ended with 130 runs for the Hardik Pandya-led franchise to chase down, which Shubman Gill (45*) and David Miller (32*) achieved without much difficulty.

Despite losing in the final, Samson hailed his side for their performances across the season as they made it to the last two of the IPL 2022.

According to news18.com, Samson said"This season is really special for us. We have been able to play good cricket and give fans some happy moments. All the youngsters, seniors played well as a team, I am proud of my team."

The Kerala-born praised his fast bowlers and how they shaped up the season.

"We believe quality bowlers win you the tournament. So we invested in them. With Jos playing throughout 20 overs, my role was a bit different. It was a decent season for me, nice 30s and 40s and 20s. But there is a lot to learn. And huge congratulations to Gujarat Titans," he stated.

The trio of Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, and Obed McCoy, who were strategically picked in the auction, have been phenomenal for them, scalping 46 wickets between themselves this season.

Rajasthan had some bright spots on a gloomy night as Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal were awarded the Orange and Purple cap, respectively.

The explosive opener was the leading run-getter this season, with 863 runs at an impressive average of 57.53, including four hundreds.

The leg-spinner was the highest wicket-taker, claiming 27 wickets, including a hat-trick against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
