Rajasthan Royals (RR) dream IPL 2022 campaign came to a halt in the final as they lost to Gujarat Titans in a lopsided contest. Season’s Orange Cap merchant Jos Buttler failed to continue his run-scoring spree as the English batter only scored 39 runs for his side on the big night.


On the other hand, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Hardik Pandya led from the front and took charge with both bat and ball. The Indian all-rounder delivered a ‘Player of the Match’ performance as his side lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in their maiden IPL season.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently interacted with Cricbuzz. According to the cricketer-turned-commentator, the Rajasthan Royals batters were hesitant in their approach against the Gujarat Titans bowlers.


Vaughan said, “Rajasthan didn’t seem to play with any kind of bravery. I think they played very timidly. Hardik was excellent, he picked two key wickets, which was a huge bonus for him as a captain.”


The 2005 Ashes-winning skipper also criticised his countryman Jos Buttler, believing that he did not try to play attacking out in the middle. He claimed:


“I felt Jos Buttler was very timid. He was waiting for the bad ball and wasn’t on the front foot trying to dislodge the bowlers of the length. We did see one ramp shot but we didn’t see him make space and whack it over mid-off. It was almost like they were trying to play safe, trying to reach 150-160.”

But unfortunately, he was ruled out of the match because of some stiffness in his back and was tested covid positive later in the day. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) surfaced the development on Monday through an official statement. The release stated that Robinson's fitness would be re-examined later this week after completing his isolation. "With respect to the lower back symptoms which prevented him from playing in the four-day tour match for the FCC select XI against the New Zealand tourists at Chelmsford last week, he will be assessed after his isolation period later this week. Further information will be confirmed in due course,” the statement read. It will be interesting to see how England responds with the return of the legendary duo of Stuart Broad and James Anderson, in the absence of the likes of Robinson, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer.
