  • Ipl 2022 Kohlis 100Th Consecutive Innings Without A Century Culminated In A Golden Duck

IPL 2022 | Kohli’s 100th consecutive innings without a century culminated in a golden duck

Former India skipper Virat Kohli has reached a new milestone in cricket that he would not be proud of. Kohli, who is known for smashing several records throughout his illustrious career, has gone 100 consecutive innings without a century.

Adding up to his woes, he scored a golden duck in his 100th innings. He lost his wicket to Sri Lankan bowler Dushmantha Chameera in the IPL encounter, which the Royal Challengers Bangalore ultimately won.

Deepak Hooda took Kohli’s catch at point, marking a sad end to the latter’s innings. It is a matter of concern that the prolific batter has only scored 119 runs at an average of 19.83 in the seven matches he has played so far in the tournament. His highest score till now has been 48.

Making the stats more precise, the RCB player has now gone 17 Tests, 21 ODIs, 25 T20Is, and 37 IPL matches without a hundred. As far as his previous IPL seasons are concerned, the 33-year-old managed 466 runs in 15 innings and 405 in 12 games in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The batter also hit three fifties in each of the two seasons.

Virat’s last Test ton came against Bangladesh in 2019 at Eden Gardens. Since then, he has scored a Test half-century six times but has failed to convert them into centuries. The same year also marks the player’s last ODI hundred, which came against the West Indies in August.

Upgradation of Pitches at Gaddafi Stadium and National Stadium

The West Indies T20I series in December 2021 served as a boon to the sports infrastructure of Pakistan, as international cricket finally arrived in the country. The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021/22 was a massive success with a strong footfall of crowds to witness their favourite cricketers in action. In March 2022, the Australian team returned to Pakistan after 24 years. The visitors prevailed in the test series 1-0 and won a one-off T20I as well, while Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1. In the latest video posted by Pakistan Cricket on Twitter, the curators of the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore and the National Stadium in Karachi are explaining the need to upgrade the pitches after observing shortcomings during the cricketing action taking place in the last few months. "We wait for the post-season to rectify the shortcomings observed during the last few series and experiment with the new soil and new grass. The pitches are compacted during the matches. Now we are decompacting it. The lifeless organic matter is removed from the surface," the curator said. "We are making new pitches, and Dhaka and Desi grass are being implanted. One of the pitches will be completely revamped, and the Australian soil will be used for the same. Rest 11 pitches have been taken care of by spilling fertilizer and spray, and all the preparation is done for the new season," another curator added. According to the schedule released by PCB, the men's and women's teams of Pakistan Cricket will be busy for the next six months. The up-gradation of facilities is a key example to upgrade the pitches ahead of the series. In May 2022, the Sri Lanka women's team will play 3 ODIs and as many T20Is in National Stadium, Karachi. On the other hand, the West Indies men's team will complete a 3-match ODI series in June against the Pakistan men's team. However, the series was postponed due to the covid cases in the West Indies camp during the T20I series in December last year.

WATCH: Marcus Stoinis' furious reaction post dismissal against RCB

On Tuesday, a clinical effort from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured their fifth victory of the IPL 2022 by 18 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). RCB captain Faf du Plessis amassed 96 off 64 balls, which comprised 11 fours and two sixes. In the middle order, Glenn Maxwell and Shahbaz Ahmed again provided valuable contributions of 20+ runs. With a task to chase the target of 182, LSG captain KL Rahul scored 30 off 24 balls and played a key anchor role in the powerplay overs. They had a decent start with around 100 runs in 12 overs, but momentum shifted to RCB's side after the back-to-back wickets of Deepak Hooda (13) and Krunal Pandya (42). After their wickets, it was upon the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Ayush Badoni, and Jason Holder to chase down the score. Young Badoni fell early, but Stoinis continued to apply pressure on the bowlers to contain runs. In the 19th over of the innings, LSG needed 34 off 12 balls. For RCB, the Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood was responsible for coming good for the team. In his first delivery, Stoinis shuffled early, but Hazlewood had different plans to keep it outside the off stump. The ball was way outside the tram line, but the umpire deemed it a legal ball due to the movement of Stoinis. Watch the video: It certainly fumed Stoinis, as he had missed the ball, which could've proved valuable in a chase. He tried to hit a slog sweep in the next ball, but the ball brushed the pads and rattled the stumps. In an immediate reaction, he looked at the umpire in despair and was heard hurling abuses at him for his decision on the last ball. With the wicket of Stoinis (24 off 15 balls), the slightest of hope had taken a back seat for the LSG fans. However, Jason Holder provided two lusty blows but was dismissed in the last over, with the team falling short by 18 runs. Stoinis was later reprimanded for breaching the Code of Conduct, according to the latest IPL release. The Aussie all-rounder, along with KL Rahul, admitted to a Level 1 offence breach.
