IPL 2022 | 'I've got great belief in this team' - Mitchell Marsh

On May 16, Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a 17-run victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at DY Patil Academy and registered their seventh victory in 13 league matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The Australian all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh, who missed 4 matches due to covid, scored a match-winning 63 off 48 balls to help the team in posting a respectable total of 159 on the board.

In the post-match presentation, Marsh reckoned that the spinners turned the game to register a great win for the team. It was evident that Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav scalped two wickets each to put the opposition under pressure.

"A great win. You can never judge a wicket until both teams bat. The spinners turned the game in the middle overs and 160 ended up being enough," said Marsh.

Then, the 30-year-old said that he looked to accumulate as many runs in the powerplay overs due to his weakness against spin. However, after the dismissal of David Warner on the first ball of the innings, the dashing batter termed his 51-run stand with Sarfaraz Khan quite good and hailed the latter for his delightful shots.

"(The intent was to) Get as many as I can in the powerplay before it starts turning. For the last sort of 18 months, I've had that mentality in the powerplay. I thought it was a really good partnership with Sarfaraz. He played some amazing shots," stated the World Cup-winning all-rounder.

Marsh thinks in a long tournament like IPL, it's critical to perform at the peak time and added that the Capitals have played quality cricket in the last ten days, which has put them in a sweet spot to qualify for the playoffs.

While concluding, the Aussie conveyed that there is a lot of talent in the DC team and is hopeful of securing another victory to get into the knockout stage.

"I've got great belief in this team. We've got a lot of talent across the board and if we can string one more together going into the finals, it'll give us great momentum," concluded Marsh.

In their last league match, they will be up against the challenge of Mumbai Indians on May 21 at Wankhede Stadium.
