It is not often that a bowler takes a five-wicket haul in T20 cricket and it's even rarer that he ends up on a losing note despite that.
New tearaway sensation Umran Malik was forced to take a bitter-sweet pill on Wednesday night as epic cameos from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan overpowered his sensational five-wicket haul.
However, despite him ending on the losing side, the right-arm pacer was rightfully adjudged the 'Player of the Match' for a breathtaking display of fast bowling.
Malik was too fast and just too good for Gujarat Titans batters as he kept aiming at the stumps, more often than not hitting the timber.
Speaking to the host broadcaster after the game, Malik said that while he always tries to bowl fast, his main aim was to target the stumps and that is exactly what he did.
"I always bowl fast but I've been trying to bowl better lines and lengths. Plan was to rotate between my plans. Idea was to attack the stumps and it worked well for me. 155 (kph), hopefully, it happens, but the main goal is to bowl well and pick wickets for my team," said the J&K pacer following his spell of 5/25 in four overs.
Malik's victims were Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, Hardik Pandya, David Miller and Abhinav Manohar, four of them had their stumps pegged back.
However, it didn't prove to be enough as Tewatia and Rashid launched a sensational counterattack in the end to seal the deal for their side.
The duo smashed four sixes off Marco Jansen in the final over to win a thrilling last-ball win.
