Despite their form, Mumbai Indians (MI) are the most valuable team according to the Forbes. The ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League hasn't been a tournament to remember for Rohit Sharma and co. as they are reeling at the bottom of the points table with zero credits.
The five-time champions are still struggling to find their first win in the tournament. However, what's surprising is that the downfall of Mumbai Indians has not affected the value of the team.
According to the magazine, Forbes - "Mumbai Indians is the most valuable franchise in this IPL with a value of $1.30 Billion."
Whether it is IPL trophies or the franchise's value, Mumbai and Chennai Super Kings have always been at the top. But it is also noteworthy that CSK is right behind Mumbai with a value of $1.15 Billion. Interestingly, CSK and MI are not doing well in this edition of the IPL, yet they have the most value, and this describes the fan following and brand value of both the franchises.
The magazine further has added that the average net worth of all the IPL teams was around $67 million till 2009. As the IPL expanded and added two new franchises, the net worth has grown up to 25%.
Meanwhile, the latest entries Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans have performed well this season and have a brand valuation of $1.075 billion and $850 million respectively.
The credit for this hike should definitely go to BCCI, as they have managed the tournament well in the hard times of COVID and made the brand - IPL.
