IPL 2022 | GT vs RCB | Match 43 Preview, Predictions, Probable XI, CREX XI

The action in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will get fierce as the table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) take on Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 43rd match of the season on 30th April at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Gujarat Titans have embarked on their IPL journey in style as they claimed 7 wins from 8 games. The team has got one of the most balanced sides in the tournament with the superb fast-bowling contingent.

The pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson and Yash Dayal have dismantled the opposition with their brilliant bowling skills. In contrast, with the bat, Hardik Pandya, David Miller, and Rahul Tewatia have stepped up on many occasions to take their side past the finish line.

They are heading into this game on the back of a 5-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, and with 14 points in their account, they are currently occupying the top spot on the points table. If they manage to eke out a win here, they will virtually qualify for play-offs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, after a terrific start to their campaign, went through a couple of hiccups. Virat Kohli's rough form with the bat has been one of the reasons behind their despicable performances. Faf du Plessis looked inconsistent as well, while their middle order hasn't fired much in the last few games.

Their bowling, however, has been exceptionally good this season, with Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel, and Wanindu Hasaranga bowling well in almost every game. Mohammed Siraj, however, has looked off-colour this season and needs to bounce back strongly as the competition is heating up. With some of the best T20 players taking on the field, another cracking game beckons in Mumbai on Saturday.

Pitch Report

With an afternoon start, the conditions in Mumbai will be pretty hot for both sides as they have played their last few games in the evenings. The last game played at this venue saw RCB bundling out for the score of 68. However, that doesn't reflect the actual behaviour of the pitch. This venue has got smaller boundaries and one can expect a run-fest. Toss will not play a major role here, however going with the trend, both the captains will be willing to bowl first.

IPL 2022 | 'Chopping and changing isn’t ideal' - Tim Southee on KKR’s form

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) started on a fine note with three wins in five league matches. But since then have sustained four consecutive losses, which has certainly impacted the confidence of the whole squad. Currently, they are at the eighth position in the points table with only three wins in nine games. In their recent fixture against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at Wankhede Stadium, the team was stuttering at one point, with the scoreboard reading 35/4 until the 8th over. The partnership of Shreyas Iyer (42) and Nitish Rana (57) helped them gain momentum before the former was caught behind in the 14th over. A late push from Rinku Singh (23* off 16) steered the team to a score of 146, which looked like a respectable total on the board. DC struggled but chased down the score in response, with David Warner and Rovman Powell as the key contributors. For KKR, Umesh Yadav was phenomenal with 3/25 off four overs. KKR seamer Tim Southee answered a few questions in the post-match conference. He opined on the bad form of the openers and said they had tried different combinations but failed to get a good start. He further added that few of their players need to find back their form. “We’ve tried a few opening combinations, and there are no bad players in the IPL; they’re all class acts. The guys who’ve opened have pure class as well. So, it’s just about guys finding form and running with guys who’ve found form,” Southee said. Then, the Kiwi ace reckoned that chopping down and changing in team's playing XI isn’t ideal but accepts this is done due to the team’s consecutive losses. “The chopping and changing nature isn’t ideal, but that happens when you aren’t winning a lot of games,” the pacer added. In the first five games, Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer opened the innings for KKR. Then three different combinations were used with the likes of Sunil Narine, Aaron Finch, and Sam Billings also invited to open the team. In their next league match, the Knight Riders will be up against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 2 at Wankhede Stadium. If the team has to secure the playoffs spot, they need to win a minimum of four out of their next five league matches.
