Delhi Capitals (DC) have provided an update on the star pacer Anrich Nortje's availability for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
As per the latest Cricbuzz report, Nortje is expected to take the field for DC from their third game of the season, which is scheduled against Lucknow Super Giants on April 7. The South African has been suffering from an undisclosed injury and has not featured in international cricket since November 2021.
Meanwhile, Nortje has already reached Mumbai and is currently undergoing the mandatory quarantine period before he starts on-field training. The news came as a major relief for Rishabh Pant and Co., who were left to panic, especially after Cricket South Africa's medical officer was recently quoted as saying: "he (Nortje) is not ready for action."
The 28-year-old speedster was retained by the Delhi-based franchise for INR 6.5 crore, trumping his countryman Kagiso Rabada on the back of impressive last two seasons.
Nortje's previous international assignment was the 2021 T20 World Cup. Since then, he has missed every match for South Africa, including series against India, New Zealand and Bangladesh.
The Proteas are currently involved in an ODI series against Bangladesh, which will be followed by two Test matches. Notably, the CSA has permitted its IPL-bound players to participate in the T20 competition and miss the red-ball series that clash with the early stage of the tournament.
