  • Ipl 2022 Ajinkya Rahane Trumps Ms Dhonis Vintage Knock As Kkr Beat Csk By 6 Wickets

IPL 2022 | Ajinkya Rahane trumps MS Dhoni's vintage knock as KKR beat CSK by 6 wickets

A vintage knock from former Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni ultimately proved to be inadequate for the defending champions as Kolkata Knight Riders made light work of their total of 131 to claim an easy win in the opening game of IPL 2022.

Kolkata rode on the brilliance of Ajinkya Rahane at the Wankhede Stadium to chase down the target with ease, despite a flurry of wickets from the veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

Rahane, who was playing his first-ever game for the Knight Riders, rolled back the clock to early 2010s when he regularly played brisk knocks for the  Rajasthan Royals at the top of the order.

It was a typical Rahane knock, studded with breathtaking stroke play, none better than the cover-drive he stroked off Tushar Deshpande in the first over.

With Venkatesh Iyer going at less than a ball for a significant part of his knock, Rahane ensured he didn't let the asking rate mount at any stage as he kept chipping in with regular boundaries.

CSK needed early wickets to have any chance of defending the target, and they duly felt the absence of Deepak Chahar in the powerplay.

They finally got their first scalp in the 7th over courtesy of Dwayne Bravo, who lulled Venkatesh into an ill-fated drive.

Bravo (3/20 in 4 overs) kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals, but with Rahane holding the fort at one end and the likes of Nitish Rana (21 off 17 deliveries) and Sam Billings (25 off 22 deliveries) chipping in with handy cameos, the asking run rate never really went up to the extent that would bother KKR.

Rahane ultimately fell to Mitchell Santner for a 34-ball 44 but skipper Shreyas ensured that he stayed till the end to hit the winning runs.

Earlier, MS Dhoni rolled back the clock with a typical Thala knock, where he left everyone asking for, following his brilliant counter attacking onslaught after a sedate start.

Dhoni once again struggled against the spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy (as did Jadeja and other CSK batsmen) as he managed just 13 runs off the first 21 deliveries he faced.

The first half of Dhoni's knock was a reflection of the first 17 overs of Chennai Super Kings innings, where the batsmen struggled to get going on a related Wankhede surface.

CSK got off to a poor start as they lost the hero of their last season, Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over of the innings to Umesh Yadav for a duck.

Yadav also removed Devon Conway for an 8-ball 3 but Robin Uthappa's strokeplay ensured that CSK finished the first six overs at 35/2.

Uthappa was looking really good during his 21-ball 28 before he was brilliantly stumped by Sheldon Jackson of the bowling of Varun.

Ambati Rayudu lost his wicket due to an unnecessary mix-up with skipper Jadeja, and when Shivam Dube mistimed an attempted pull off Russell to Narine, CSK were left reeling at 5/61 in the 11th over.

With Jadeja (26* off 28 deliveries) struggling for timing throughout his knock and Dhoni being Dhoni against spinners, it looked like CSK would end up with a sub-110 total.

But Dhoni turned up the heat in the final three overs at the expense of Russell and Mavi, smashing 35 runs off his last 13 deliveries, to not only rack up a 50 but also help his side to post something for the bowlers.

CSK will now face Lucknow Supergiants at the Brabourne Stadium on March 31, while KKR will lock horns with RCB at Dr D.Y Patil Stadium on March 30.

Brief Scores:

CSK 131/5 in 20 overs (MS Dhoni 50* [38], Robin Uthappa 28 [21] ; Umesh Yadav 2/20 [4], Varun Chakravarthy 1/23 [4]) lost to KKR 133/4 (Ajinkya Rahane 44 [34], Sam Billings 25 [22]; Dwayne Bravo 3/20 [4]) by six wickets

Twitter erupts as MS Dhoni rolls back the clock with a vintage knock against KKR

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni once again reminded us of the age-old saying 'there is no substitute to class and experience' as the 40-year-old rolled back the clock with a vintage knock. It was a typical Dhoni knock where he struggled against the spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine during the first half of his stay at the crease before unleashing an onslaught against Umesh Yadav and Andre Russell. The first half of Dhoni's knock, during which he managed just 13 runs off 21 deliveries, pretty much mirrored the first 17 overs of the CSK's innings. The men in yellow couldn't manoeuvre the ball, let alone hitting it out of the park. Even Ravindra Jadeja, at the peak of his form as a late-order finisher in the last two years, struggled for timing throughout his knock. With both batsmen striking at less than 100, it increasingly looked like the defending champions would struggle to even get to 110. But, it all changed in the 18th over bowled by Andre Russell as Dhoni took matters in his hands to hammer three boundaries, including a bottom-handed jab, a Natarajan shot, followed by a cheeky guide towards the third-man. In the penultimate over, Dhoni backed it up with a four and six off Shivam Mavi before smashing another couple of boundaries off Russell, bringing up his first IPL fifty since the 2019 season. He eventually finished at a 38-ball 50, ensuring that CSK had a competitive total of 131 to defend. As with every masterclass from Dhoni, Twitter blew up big time. Finally! BCCI to stage six-team Women's IPL from next year onwards

After a long wait, the BCCI officials agreed to stage a six-team Women's IPL from next year onwards, prioritising the existing IPL franchises. Also, outside parties will be invited to bid for the franchises once that option has been exhausted. The board has also cleared the road for IPL Media Rights with ITT (Invitation to Tender), likely to be released on Monday. Having pressure from other boards and former and current women players, the BCCI has given the nod for a start to six-team Women's IPL. The decision to execute a six-team annual T20 tournament was taken during the Governing Council meeting of the IPL in Mumbai. However, Board President Sourav Ganguly also said that four exhibition games make a return this season after a one-year gap. The most likely venue for the women's exhibitions games is Pune. The BCCI, which has been criticised in the last few years for not having plans for the Women's IPL, will need AGM's approval to kickstart the cash-rich league next season. "The full-fledged women's IPL has to be approved by the AGM. Hopefully, we plan to start it by next year," BCCI president Sourav Ganguly told reporters after the IPL GC meeting on Friday. The Governing Council also discussed the issue of IPL media rights for the 2023-2027 cycle. "The tender will be out soon," said a Governing Council member. Adding further, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel also cleared the cloud that there will be four matches for the three women teams around men's IPL play-offs this season, most likely in Ahmedabad. It was not organised last year. According to the chairman, there would be five or six teams in the Women's IPL, but again that would need the approval of the General Body. Moreover, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also focuses on similar plans like CWI came up with. Cricket Australia's Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) Women's Hundred and New Zealand Cricket's Women's Super-Smash are some of the prominent white-ball franchise tournaments for women's cricket.\ Crucial points of the meeting: -BCCI proposes to start a six-team women's IPL in 2023. -The first choice is to be given to existing franchises post to which other parties are invited. -At least three franchises confirmed interest in buying teams. -Women's T20 challenge is set to take place in late May this year.

IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians – Fantasy Tips

Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the Indian T20 League, with five titles. They will begin their campaign for IPL 2022 against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai. So let’s take a look at the players from Mumbai you must have in your fantasy team or the players you should avoid. Untamed: They are the strongest warriors of the team. Try to make a place for them in your squad even though they will cost you high credits. Rohit Sharma: Rohit Sharma is arguably the best white ballplayer in India. In 213 IPL matches, he has scored 5611 runs at a strike rate of 130.39. Besides this, Rohit has scored over 300 runs in every IPL season that he has played except in 2018. So, he is a must pick in the side and will give good returns. Jasprit Bumrah: Fans and critics consider him the best T20 bowler of the current times. A bowler giving you 35 fantasy points per game lessens your worries of picking the perfect combination in the bowling lineup. Recently batters have been careful against him; as a result, his wicket-taking rate has gone down. But still, he is the strongest horse in the bowling department of Mumbai Indians. Even if he doesn’t give you enough wickets, his economical bowling will be valuable for you. Shilly Shally: These players can give you unexpectedly big returns on the days they click. But they will also be of no value to you on certain days. So risk-takers should back them. Kieron Pollard: Kieron Pollard has a strike rate of 149 in the IPL. The day he clicks, he will take your team to great heights. His average of 36 fantasy points per game might force you to select him as the captain or vice-captain of the team. But as a small league player, you should be careful in making him the skipper because Pollard firing big is not an everyday event. Ishan Kishan: Ishan Kishan was sold for INR 15.25 Cr in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022. His aggressive starts are something that MI values and paid the hefty price to repurchase him. He will take the opposition by storm and give you significant returns on days he clicks. He provides 26 fantasy points per game, but within that is included some big performances. So, he will not be your everyday prime pick, but you can back him in the grand leagues. Unhailed: They are the unsung heroes of the team. Suryakumar Yadav: After his consistent performances in the IPL for the past years, fantasy players have started to show more dependency on him. But still, the man is underrated. On most of the days, he will give you some valuable points. His average of 34 points per game speaks a lot about his consistency. Stealthy Warriors: They are the x-factors of a team. Still unexplored in the IPL but reputed to be big players. Tim David: In T20 cricket, David has a strike rate of 159.36. He gives 33 fantasy points on average per game. So, the stats are in favour of David being picked up by many fantasy players. But towards the beginning of the tournament, many would ignore him as he is still new in the IPL circuit. Imposters: These players will be deducting points from your team on most days. Basil Thampi: Basil Thampi has an economy rate of 9.79 in the IPL. With such a high economy rate, batters will target him. So, if he is in your team, be ready to lose some valuable points. Jaydev Undakat: Due to Archer’s unavailability this year Unadkat might be the death bowling partner of Jasprit Bumrah. In general, he has an economy rate of 8.74 in the IPL. So, Unadkat bowling the death overs for Mumbai, he being valuable to your squad is a near impossibility. Hot Picks: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard. Risky Picks: Ishan Kishan, Tim David. Stay Away From: Basil Thampi, Jaydev Unadkat.

'There is every chance that Rishabh could be international captain' : Ricky Ponting

Former Australian captain and Delhi Capitals' head coach Ricky Ponting has opined that Rishabh Pant will benefit from captaining in a high-pressure tournament like the Indian Premier League (IPL). Also, the world-cup winning Aussie does not doubt that the charismatic wicketkeeper-batsman will make for an excellent international captain shortly. Pant made his captaincy debut for the Capitals last season after Shreyas Iyer got ruled out due to injury. He led his side to the Playoffs, where the Capitals lost back-to-back Qualifiers to CSK and KKR. In an exclusive interview with Cricbuzz, Ponting said: "With some experience in a role like this in such a high-pressure tournament like the IPL, you know, I've got no doubt in years to come there is every chance that Rishabh could be international captain. No doubt about it" The former Aussie skipper went on to heap praise on Pant for his constant evolution as a cricketer and as a person during his stay at the Delhi Capitals. He added: "This is my fifth season now here and the evolution of Rishabh as a player and as a person has been quite dramatic. The last couple of years with some more responsibility in and around the Indian team, obviously captaining Delhi Capitals last season, there's been a lot of learning experiences for him," Ponting stated that Pant could emulate the same kind of success that Rohit Sharma has achieved at the Mumbai Indians. ‘Punter’ was the head coach of the Mumbai Indians when a young Rohit led them to their maiden IPL title way back in 2013. And, as someone who has seen the rise of Rohit very closely, Ponting sees the same qualities in Pant, which a young Rohit had at the time. "I haven't thought about that actually. But I think they are actually quite similar. When Rohit took over at Mumbai, he was quite a young man as well and he just sort of started out in his international career. He would probably be about 23-24, similar age to what Rishabh over here," Ponting concluded. Pant's Delhi Capitals side will open their campaign against Rohit's Mumbai Indians on March 27.
