Team India strives to break the longstanding ICC trophy jinx with a title victory at the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean & USA, starting June 1. No team has announced its squad for the biannual ICC event yet. However, according to reports, India are set to confirm their touring contingent for the marquee tournament on May 1. 

A report on Sports Tak claimed the Indian squad of 15 members plus the the reserves will be announced by the BCCI and the senior India selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar one month before the tournament, with May 1 emerging as the likely deadline for all teams to confirm their squad. 

The report further stated that it will be a preliminary squad, which can be revised and tweaked depending on tactics and decisions until May 25. However, any forced changes made after the cut-off date at the fag end of May will have to be approved by the ICC Technical Committee. 


Team India To Announce T20 World Cup Squad On May 1 

Team India will be captained by Rohit Sharma and feature modern-day legend Virat Kohli at No.3 in the batting order after the two giants returned to the T20I side with the series against Afghanistan earlier in the summer. 

Vice-captain Hardik Pandya and extravagant middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav are also due to comeback from their respective injury troubles and form the core of the batting unit alongside Rohit and Kohli, with young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also set to board the flight to USA and Caribbean. Explosive left-hander Rinku Singh is shaping up as another certainty in the touring squad at this stage.  

Ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the pace attack, set to also feature Mohammed Siraj and young left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh with Pandya's allround utility helping balance the squad. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi are going to be the two specialist spinners. 

The rest of the slots, especially the wicketkeeper-batter at No.5 and another utility all-rounder at No.7, could be determined by the selectors on the basis of performances during the IPL 2024, starting March 22.
