The mystery around the venue for Champions Trophy 2025 is getting darker and darker with each passing day, and a new twist has been added to the story with Farid Khan, the Pakistan journalist claiming that BCCI has not sent a letter to ICC. PCB and ICC have recently emphasised on the need of written application from BCCI where they need to state reasons for their decision to not travel to Pakistan.
However, Farid Khan has claimed that if the BCCI do not provide written application, the apex cricket board would take strict action. He stated that BCCI would be asked to send a security delegation to Pakistan or withdraw from the tournament. It the claims are true, it would be quite a bold move from ICC as India enjoy support from most of the members and dominate the game's working due to the huge market and money it brings to the table.
Pakistan's Resistance To Hybrid Model Creates Confusion
Also, India's non-participation in the event would hurt broadcasters big time, and it is highly unlikely that major stakeholders would allow India to withdraw from the tournament. On the other hand, their were also reports recently that ICC may ask Pakistan to withdraw from the tournament, if they don't agree to the hybrid model. Their are countries like UAE and South Africa in contention to host the tournament, and even India is looked as a option if Pakistan withdraw.
The Champions Trophy is happening after the gap of eight years and Pakistan are the defending champions with a win over India in 2017. The current tentative schedule for Champions Trophy 2025 has all India matches in Lahore with tournament to be played from February 19 to March 9. It is likely to be changed, and there could be some big surprises coming up in the next month or so.
