Suryakumar Yadav struck 47 in India’s spirited pursuit of New Zealand’s 176-run total in the first T20I match in Ranchi. The world number one ranked batter dispatched two sixes and six boundaries during his 34-ball stay in the run-chase, after New Zealand’s new-ball brilliance forced his early arrival to the crease.

Notably, the cricketer has now overtaken former Indian captain and legendary batter MS Dhoni in an all-time elite T20I listing for the ‘Men in Blue’.

The Mumbai-based batsman, who made his T20I debut less than two years ago, has already become one of India’s top five highest run-getters of the format. His 47-run knock against New Zealand in the first T20I pushed him past MS Dhoni’s all-time tally.

Interestingly, Yadav achieved the feat with the legendary wicketkeeper-batter in attendance at Ranchi’s JSCA Stadium.

Yadav has now compiled 1,625 runs after 46 T20I matches. The cricketer, currently ranked number one in the world by ICC, has already registered three tons and another 13 fifty-plus scores in his short career.

MS Dhoni, who scored 1,617 runs after playing 96 games, has now been pushed to number six in terms of all-time highest T20I run-getters for India.

The elite list is headed by Virat Kohli (4,008 runs), who is also the world’s most prolific T20I batter. He is followed by Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and finally, Suryakumar Yadav.
