Alex Hales has expressed his delight to return to international cricket after a hiatus of more than three years.

Hales was omitted from the national squad in 2019 under the leadership of Eoin Morgan, wherein he was found to be positive for a recreational drug. Since then he has been piling up runs consistently for Nottinghamshire across all formats.

In 14 games of T20 Blast 2022, Hales smashed 374 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 193.78. He then followed it up by slamming 259 runs in eight innings of the Men's Hundred.

With prolonged consistency and injury to Jonny Bairstow, the 33-year-old was recalled into the national squad for the Pakistan series and T20 World Cup.

In this regard, Hales reckoned that he was proud of his performances in domestic cricket, which helped him to have a second shot to revive his international career.

"I'm proud of what I have achieved in these last few years, being away from the national team. I felt good batting all round the globe, the T20 Blast and Hundred were a great platform for me to showcase what I can do, to be honest, I was not expecting to make a return, especially in these circumstances but I'm glad and I'll take all the chances I have."
