ICC Women's CWC 2022 | Heather Knight is everything we need as a captain: Danny Wyatt

After losing three games on a trot in the ongoing World Cup, the four-time champions England women have found their jam right in this showpiece tournament. It all started when the Heather Knight-led side stifled the Women in Blue at Mount Maunganui by six wickets.

Since beating India, the reigning champs have gotten one better of New Zealand and Pakistan. And suddenly, a berth in the semifinals is looking lucent to them - all thanks to the West Indies and South Africa game being washed out.

In the semifinal's context, the game's result mentioned above will help the Heather Knight-led team as the third-placed Windies have finished their league stage with seven points off seven games. Whereas, both England and India still have six points each after playing as many matches.

If both India and England win their last league clashes, they will advance. If not, the team having better NRR (England) shall advance, alongside West Indies. The Three Lions would have to win the game against Bangladesh to keep their chances in their hands.

However, Knight doesn't fear what the future has for them. The English captain sounded confident of her team and said she knew her team is known for bouncing back, and we are doing it here.

"This was a complete performance. Really pleased with how we have done today. Bowlers exploited the green on the surface. Brunt bowled well, and she returned to form. She's put a bit of work into her action and made sure everything is right. It was only time before a player like her rose and came back to form," said Knight in a presentation after the game against Pakistan.

The 31-year old batter further praised Pakistan's Daina Baig and backed her batters as well, "Diana bowled outstandingly and threatened the outside edge. If we would have batted first, we would have batted carefully to post 270. After the start we had, we just had to remind the girls that it is not how you start but how you finish that matters."

Meanwhile, the Player of the Match against the Asian team - Danielle Wyatt, praised her captain and stated Knight is everything we need as a captain.

"After a couple of failures, you start doubting yourself, which is not very nice when you are away from home and life is a bit tough, but I try to bat myself and play my way. Brunty is simply a legend. It was expectational how she bowled today. Knight never changes; she is always as cool as a cucumber. And she's everything we need as a captain. I love batting with her," Wyatt cited.

England are now scheduled to play Bangladesh in Wellington on Sunday, while India will be up against the Proteas at Christchurch on the same day.
