ICC Men's ODI Rankings: Jasprit Bumrah becomes top-ranked bowler after Oval exploits

Jasprit Bumrah has been racking up accolades one after other in his ever-growing International career.

The Indian pacer registered his career-best ODI figures of six wickets for 19 runs in the first 50-over fixture against England on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old’s blistering spell helped him climb five places to become the No.1 ranked bowler in Men’s ODI cricket. The Ahmedabad-based pacer dislodged Trent Boult from the top of the rankings.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the latest rankings on Wednesday, 13th July.

Jasprit Bumrah demolished England’s top order at the Oval in the first ODI. The Indian pacer dismissed Jason Roy and in-form batters Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root to put his side in the driving seat. He was also awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ for his magnificent display.

Meanwhile, Kiwi pacer Trent Boult dropped to second in the ICC ODI rankings chart. Another left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi comes in at third, followed by Josh Hazlewood at fourth. Finally, Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman rounds off the top five.

Mohammed Shami made a decent leap in the rankings after his three-wicket haul against England in the first ODI. The 31-year-old pacer moves to the 23rd spot, climbing three places.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma remains in the fourth spot in the rankings for batters. However, the 35-year-old moves within just one rating point of his teammate, Virat Kohli, who is placed in the third spot. Babar Azam continues to lead the charts, with a comfortable lead over second-placed Imam-ul-Haq.

Shikhar Dhawan also climbed one spot to 12th after his unbeaten 31 against England in the first ODI.
