I find gym exercises very boring: Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Afridi opens up on his diet regime

Pakistan speedster, who has become the first fast bowler in the Pakistan Super League to lead a sie after being named the captain of the Lahore Qalandars, revealed that he doesn’t like exercising in the gym one bit. 

Talking about his diet regime, Shaheen in an interview with Cricbuzz said, “Food toh main har kisam ka khata hoon, mujhe bahut mazza aata hai (I eat all types of food, I enjoy eating a lot). I don't go on diets.”

“Whatever I eat, I sweat it all out in the training. I am focused on staying fit for the team... but it's not like I do it all at the gym. I find gym exercises very boring. So I focus more on the ground exercises. I like running a lot and I think a fast bowler should like it as well,” he added. 

On that note, he was asked if he has at least given up on Biryani, to that he answered smilingly, “I don't eat a lot of rice. It's been 3-4 years since I have cut it down, Haha yeah, not even biryani. I only eat it when there's a Test match going on.”

Afridi, who is just 21 years old and was named ICC cricketer of the year, said that his preparation for any big match or series is always about thinking in the present and not looking ahead of him. He doesn’t look back either, but that does not mean that he will not learn from his mistakes. 

“I don't look back at my mistakes too much, to be honest. Yes, I learn from them so that they can help me in the upcoming series. There's no point thinking about how the next series is going to go, what's going to happen. I try to stick to the present and enjoy my cricket irrespective of what's happened and what could happen,” he said. 

“The focus is giving 100% every time I go to the ground. I don't want to ever feel that I didn't give my best at the moment. All I want to do is give my best and always enjoy my cricket, irrespective of the format - Tests, ODIs or T20Is,” he added further.
