'I do hope he can find some sort of help'- Philander on Hasnain's innocent mistake

Former Proteas seamer Vernon Philander has termed Pakistan fast-bowler Mohammad Hasnain ‘a phenomenal talent’ and he is hopeful that a promising career isn't cut short due to an innocent mistake.

Hasnain was reported for suspected bowling action during the recent season of the Big Bash League, where he was representing the Sydney Thunder. His elbow extension was found to exceed the 15 degree limit.

Hasnain returned home and featured for the Quetta Gladiators in three games before being reported again. Following an investigation by the PCB, the right-arm pacer was handed a temporary ban.

Speaking to PakPassion.net, Philander said that he is hopeful that Hasnain will sort out his action with the help of experts and return back to international cricket.

Philander also believes that Hasnain hasn't done this intentionally.

He said, "It’s really sad when these things happen. My understanding of this issue is based upon a few articles that I have read on the topic, however what I will say is that Hasnain is another phenomenal talent from Pakistan, and you don’t want to see a promising career cut short like that especially if it is an innocent mistake."

"I certainly don’t think he is doing it intentionally in any way. I do hope he can find some sort of help and someone who can help him remedy that action. Like I said, you cannot teach someone to bowl at those express speeds and this is one more exceptional talent that Pakistan has.

I do hope he can bounce back but I feel that apart from fixing the action itself, there will also be a mental aspect of this as he will always feel that the world is watching him when he comes into bowl. I sincerely hope that the people working with him have Hasnain’s best interests at heart," continued Philander.

Hasnain made his debut for Pakistan in 2019 and since then, the 22-year-old has represented his country in 8 ODIs and 18 T20Is respectively.

Asian Games 2022 postponed due to Covid-19; Cricket's entry delayed

Cricket's return to the Asian Games after a hiatus of 8 years has been further derailed, with the competition postponed due to a surge of Covid-19 cases in China. The 19th edition of the Asian Games was originally scheduled to take place between September 10-25 in Hangzhou, China. The cricket matches were supposed to take place at the Zhejiang Technology Cricket Field, but question marks over the plausibility of staging such an event have hovered after a steep surge in Covid cases in Shanghai - which is 175 km away from Hangzhou. "Following detailed discussions with the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) and the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC), the OCA Executive Board (EB) today decided to postpone the 19th Asian Games, which were scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China, from 10 to 25 September 2022," the OCA confirmed via an official statement. The new dates for the tournament will be announced in due course. "The new dates of the 19th Asian Games will be agreed between the OCA, the COC and the HAGOC and announced in the near future." Cricket made its last appearance in the Asian Games back in 2014, where Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan, while Pakistan defeated Bangladesh in the men's and women's categories, respectively, to win the gold medal. Cricket was cut off from the Asian Games in 2018 as the organizers tried to reduce the number of events. India has never participated in the Asian Games, and earlier this year, it was confirmed that they will pull out from the 2022 edition as well, citing international commitments. China has been plagued with a fresh wave of coronavirus for the past few months, and the country has been under severe lockdown. Several sporting events, except the Winter Olympics, have been postponed or cancelled in recent months. The Asian Games are the latest addition to the list.
