  • I Am Sorry That Is Dumb Vaughan Lambasts Bairstow After The Latters Pathetic Dismissal

'I am sorry, that is dumb' - Vaughan lambasts Bairstow after the latter's pathetic dismissal

As the Lord's Test moves to Day 4, England sits on top, courtesy of the spirited effort from their skipper Ben Stokes and his predecessor Joe Root. With only 20 runs left in New Zealand's bank, England could possibly win their second match in the last 18 Tests.

However, it started as the same old story for England's top-order. Barring Root, none of the batters stood tall, leaving the Three Lions in precarious circumstances.

Alex Lees, Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope faced another setback as Kyle Jamieson, and Trent Boult caused the damage with the new ball.

But the disappointment of all came in the form of Jonny Bairstow, who was outdone by Jamieson. The Englishman adopted the counter-attacking approach. However, it did not pay off as he looked all over the place in his 15-ball innings.

The lanky New Zealand pacer dismantled the woodwork in the 20th over after Bairstow's poorly-timed drive inflicted an inside edge.

The atrocious stroke-play of the 32-year-old was called by many, including former England captain Michael Vaughan, who reacted strongly to Bairstow's dismissal. Commentating on BBC's Test Match Special, Vaughan said:

"I am sorry, that is dumb. That is pathetic!"

Bairstow was running hot in the Test circuit, having scored two centuries in the format recently against Australia and the West Indies. However, he did not have a good game against New Zealand, accumulating 1 and 16 runs, respectively.
