'I am keen to see how he comes back' - Glenn McGrath on Virat Kohli

Legendary Australian pacer Glenn McGrath believes that the short break for Virat Kohli since the culmination of the IPL and the start of the England tour will do the Indian batsman a world of good and he is keen to see how the 33-year-old goes about his business in the upcoming season.

Kohli was going through a rough patch during the recent IPL season, where he managed just 341 runs in 16 innings at an average of 22.73 and a strike rate of 115.9 with just two 50+ scores.

There were calls for him to be rested from former cricketers throughout the season. Having got that break now, McGrath is confident that the former Indian skipper will regain his mojo in the upcoming series against England.

"Cricket is pretty much a confidence sport, Virat is pretty much a confidence player as well. When he is on song, he scores runs after runs and sometimes, it is not going well, it can be a tough place to be. He has got enough experience, knows himself, and knows his game. Having that break, will do him a world of good. I am keen to see how he comes back, we have the World Cup just around the corner and I think India will need the experienced players to help steady the ship," McGrath was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Meanwhile, McGrath also reckons that the Indian team will have to be on top of their game if they want to upstage a red-hot English team and claim the Pataudi Trophy.

England, under the new leadership of captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, seem to have regained their red-ball form after a horrific 18 month struggle. The home side won't be as easy to beat as they were last summer.

"It is always tough when you go to another country and you play just that one practice game leading into the Test match. England have been playing some good cricket of late, with Ben Stokes as captain, they are playing a more aggressive form of the game combined with Brendon McCullum. They are going out there, backing themselves, they are trying to play good, positive cricket. So yeah, when they are playing well, they will be a tough team to beat so I think India will really have to be on their toes, they will have to be playing well to compete with England in England," said McGrath.

India are currently 2-1 up in the 5-match series and the final Test will take place at Edgbaston from July 01.
